Bray Wanderers have been treading a very dangerous tightrope for the last four years.

To be fair to them they escaped relegation with a little bit to spare last year but even heading into the last few weeks they were far from comfortable. Off field issues brought their own pressures to bare and this season Mick Cooke has signed plenty of quality to make their on field activities seem a little brighter.

Conor Kenna has joined from Shamrock Rovers and immediately picked up the captaincy which won’t surprise too many. A trip to the seaside isn’t looking like the jolly little jaunt it might have done for some over the last few seasons.

In truth it has never been that easy for Dundalk even in the Stephen Kenny era. They have won four of the six games under his tutelage but only twice have they covered a handicap. Looking at some of the prices being quoted you would expect to see convincing wins a lot more often.

The loss of Richie Towell is yet to be proven as addressed even if they have signed well in Patrick McEleney and Robbie Benson. Against Cork in the Presidents Cup The Lillywhites looked short of their usual creative incision and there is no doubting Towell would have helped in that regard.

Cork City bullied Dundalk into submission and on a far from ideal pitch at the Carlisle Grounds they are going to have to show a lot more metal than they did. The Seagulls are looking up this year and will be out to earn their wings against the champions.

Bray Wanderers v Dundalk Betting Preview

Dundalk are very short priced favourites here at a best 1.4 (2/5) with Coral and Paddy Power. Bray can be backed at a high price of 9.2 (41/5) with Marathon Bet while the draw is 4.85 (77/20) with Marathon Bet.

A poor playing surface should take you away from goals bets altogether but both teams to score is available at 2.06 (17/16) with 888Sport. For there to be more than three goals pays a best 1.8 (4/5) with Marathon Bet which I wouldn’t be touching either.

Paddy Barret is going to be my guilty pleasure first goalscorer bet for the upcoming season but he won’t be starting most games. If he does start you can get 28/1 from Coral on him hitting the opener but make sure to wait for team news before placing any bets.
