The two faces of Cork City makes them a hard team to predict and even harder to place much faith in.

After three draws in a row that threatened to derail their assault on the League Of Ireland title they have picked up two good wins to get them back on track. But nobody at Cork will need reminding that it was only three weeks ago they failed to beat Wexford Youths on their home patch.

The Rebels home form will be key to any title aspirations with just one win in their four away league matches so far. Given their poor performances on the road every home game has already become must win.

St Patricks Atlethic’s own good away form came to end last weekend with a disappointing defeat to managerless Bray Wanderers. They ended the game with ten men after their goalkeeper Brendan Clarke was sent off and he will automatically miss this game on Friday night.

The defeat came after their manager, Liam Buckley, was quoted in the press lauding recent performances and talking about reaching their best form. It’s the second time in recent weeks that a Pats representative has talked to the press in gloating terms and both times were followed by a defeat.

But this Pats side can certainly lay claim to being at least as good as the Shamrock Rovers side who suffered defeat here on Monday night. The bookies had Cork City priced up at odds against for that one. Now the prices quoted on a Cork win for Friday seem to be way out of line.

Cork City are no better than the 1.71 (5/7) available from Marathon Bet and that’s too short for me to take an interest. Pats can be backed at a high of 5.75 (19/4) with bet365 while the draw is available at 3.76  (47/17) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score has little appeal even at the odds against price of 2.1 (11/10) from Betfair. Goals backers can get 2.2 (6/5) from Marathon Bet for +2.5 goals.

It’s looking like a no bet game although if Cork shorten much more it could be worth looking at Pats on the handicap markets.
