Galway have been the surprise package in the League Of Ireland so far but a trip to The Brandywell will test their mettle to the max.

Derry City started poorly with a defeat to local rivals Finn Harps but have picked up six points since then and kept two clean sheets. It’s a toss up as to whether their home win against Cork or away win against Bray was the most impressive.

The goals of Rory Patterson could well be The Candystripes saving grace this season after his trip to the seaside saw him grab a brace. He could fire them to a top half position if their last two games are anything to go by.

In fact, I am as surprised by Derry’s start as Galway’s even if The Tribesmen’s form has been a bit more spectacular. Kenny Shiels looks to be pulling something together in the north west and with an in form Patterson to call on he could be eyeing a bit more than a top half place.

For my money Derry City and Galway Utd could end up battling it out for fifth, perhaps with Bohs also in the mix. If Galway are to come out on top there is something they are going to need to start doing, scoring goals in the first half.

It’s quite something that of the eight goals they have scored in three games all of them have come in the second half. It will inevitably change but in the meantime it’s a stat that could offer potential from a betting viewpoint.

Derry City v Galway Utd Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Home advantage gives Derry City the favourites tag at a best 2.6 (8/5) with bet365 but it is a price that’s drifting. Galway are available to back at 3.1 (21/10) with Boylesports while the draw is best at 3.35 (47/20) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score could have a chance with both sides in good goalscoring form but is a little short at 1.8 (4/5) with Boylesports and Paddy Power. Three or more goals has a lot more appeal at 2.4 (7/5) with Marathon Bet and can certainly be considered.

There is potential in backing the second half to be the highest scoring half at 2.1 (11/10) with Boylesports, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes. The bet I am going to take on is Galway to score their first goal in the second half at 3.1 (21/10) with Boylesports.
