It may seem silly to state this so early in the season but this game could have a major bearing on the title race this year.

Sure, it’s only the fourth game of the season and there is a long way to go but how many Cork City fans will retain confidence if they fall six points behind Dundalk already?

The Rebels started the season off on a flyer and have continued to do so, at home. A 6-0 trouncing of Longford Town on Monday night exemplifies how formidable City are likely to be at Turners Cross this season.

Away from home the same old pains are creaking away. They have only played one game so it might be too early to assume anything but they did lose that one game. If they are to have any chance of winning the league they need to fix their away form and it needs to start this Friday night.

Meanwhile Dundalk are on maximum points despite a late scare away to Wexford on Monday. Typical of the champions they changed up a gear exactly when they needed to having conceded an equaliser with nine minutes remaining.

Ciaran Kilduff, who was only on the field a matter of moments, scored his third goal in two and a bit games to wrestle the points off the Youths. Despite this it was an unconvincing second half from The Lillywhites and they will need to up their game to claim all three points on Friday night.

Dundalk v Cork City Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Dundalk are favourites for the game but are rightly drifting having opened as short as 1.8 (4/5). They can now be backed at even money with bet365 but even that is too short to tempt. City can be backed at a high of 4.2 (16/5) with Paddy Power while the draw is 3.6 (13/5) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score will have a chance at a best price of 1.85 (17/20) with Betvictor. Goals backers can get 2.05 (21/20) for +2.5 goals with Betvictor and bet365. Boylesports are as high as 1.5 (1/2) for Cork to get on the scoresheet and that could make good acca fodder.

If Paddy Barrett starts and is 25/1+ to score first once the markets open he will always be worth a small stake.
