Stephen Kenny picked up his sixty-seventh league win as manager of Dundalk in his one-hundredth game in charge.

He did it by springing a couple of surprises in his team selection at the start of the match but was mostly helped by his pre-season’s top two goal scorers. Ciaran Kilduff got his season (and mine) off to  a wonderful start by grabbing a brace while Ronan Finn also got in on the act near the end.

By all accounts it was a dominant performance from Dundalk over a Bray Wanderers side many expect big things from this year. That sets a real line in the sand for The Lilywhites who wasted no time in getting over the disappointment of their Presidents Cup defeat the week before.

Winning so comfortably at such an early stage of the season at a ground many will find difficult to emerge from unscathed offers real hope to their treble of titles ambitions. Having a substitutes bench filled with talent like Gannon, Meenan, Shields, McMillan and Benson gives you an idea of the quality at their disposal.

Finn Harps will be delighted with their start having got one over their local rivals, Derry City. Picking up points in their first home game was an imperative with a trip to Dundalk and a visit from Shamrock Rovers next in line and both are likely to be fruitless.

That was only their second victory over Derry in their history with their record against Dundalk much better. But this trip to Oriel park will be a much bigger hurdle than a home game against the Candystripes.

Anything other than a comfortable sixty-ninth league win for Stephen Kenny is hard to contemplate.

Dundalk v Finn Harps Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Dundalk are unwavering favourites for this game at a best price of 1.23 (3/13) with Marathon Bet. Harps are as high as 20/1 with Coral with the draw coming in at 6.7 (57/10) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score can be backed at 2.65 (33/20) with 888Sport and that will surely tempt some. For there to be +2.5 goals looks fairly backable at 1.78 (7/9) with Marathon Bet.

The temptation here is to back Dundalk with a one goal handicap but at the prices it could be a losing strategy. Based on last season’s form, even against bottom six clubs, Dundalk didn’t win enough to make a -1 handicap price of 1.67 (4/6) with bet365 profitable.

However, backing them with a -2 Asian Handicap at a price like 2.23 (16/13) with Betvictor would have been profitable. If they win by exactly two goals your stake returns and any wins by a bigger margin would be a winning bet.

Last season saw eight wins from seventeen home games by three goals or more (all but two against bottom six sides) with one win by exactly two goals. At the price that would see a small profit margin of 11.5% but when it comes to beating the bookies small margins, unfortunately, are exactly what you’re looking for.
