The battle of The Rovers could well go against the way the bookies are expecting.

The Robertson Revolution at Sligo Rovers has taken it’s time to get going but the signs are suggesting it is about to take hold. They started with a 0-0 draw at home to Cork City and then an unfortunate 1-1 draw away to Pats.

People started to take note after an excellent performance in a 1-0 defeat at Dundalk but it was the 0-2 away win in Derry that really got tongues wagging. They are the only side to take anything away from The Brandywell and either side of it they can boast of two comprehensive home wins over Longford and Wexford Youths.

The evergreen (or ever red) Raf Cretaro has been at the heart of the resurgence with three of Sligo’s nine goals in their last three games. It’s fitting that the club stalwart who has turned in more than 450 appearances for The Bit O Red should be playing his part but the whole team is starting to gel.

The stats from the 4-1 win over Wexford Youths are very impressive. More than twenty shots on goal, twelve of which were on target and a third of those shots on target returned as goals. A win in Tallaght could have them knocking on the door of European football and that would be a remarkable turnaround.

Shamrock Rovers have been perennial disappointments for their fans who always set out with notions of winning the league title. Their most recent wins against Longford and Bray  had an element of good fortune as did wins over Galway and Finn Harps. Save for their 0-4 win over Bohs they have flattered to deceive.

Convincing defeats to Dundalk and Cork saw Pat Fenlon revert to five men across the midfield, a familiar formation he loves oh so well. While this may make them more difficult to beat in the short term its pushing on ten years since that form of football was the way to win league titles.

Dave Robertson appears to be building a more modern, more fluid and more invigorating brand of football with Sligo Rovers and it could win the day in Tallaght on Tuesday night.

Shamrock Rovers v Sligo Rovers Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Shamrock Rovers have lengthened to 1.91 (10/11) with Boylesports and Betvictor. Sligo Rovers have shortened from an opening 4.5 (7/2) and are now best priced at 4.35 (57/17) with Marathon Bet.

The original Paddy Power price of 3.2 (11/5) for a Sligo Rovers win with Draw No Bet insurance is still available if you’re fast enough and that looks to have a chunk of value attached to it.

It’s not a game for goals so the 1.95 (19/20) for both teams to score from Betvictor has little appeal. The 2.19 (19/16) price for +2.5 goals falls into the same bracket. The best goals bet could be to back Sligo Rovers to score +0.5 team goals at 1.57 (4/7) with Ladbrokes and Boylesports.
