The first of the Dublin derbies is between two sides with almost nothing between them.

After two games the only thing that separates them is that Pats have scored one goal more than Bohs. Their points tally and goal difference is identical with one win and one defeat apiece.

Picking out a winner from this game could be just as tight but it is worth noting that Bohs haven’t won in Inchicore for nine games. Pats also had the best of it last season with two wins out of the teams’ three meetings.

But it’s also worth noting that those games were competed for in a time, last year excepted, when Pats were at their best and Bohs were at their worst. There was nearly fifty points between them in 2013 when Pats finished as champions and Bohs narrowly avoided the relegation playoff.

The gap closed year on year and many were surprised that the North Siders were able to get within five points of their rivals in 2015. How much that gap would have increased if Pats had the goals of Christy Fagan to rely on is hard to quantify but they certainly missed their star striker.

Fagan has returned for 2016 and has got off the mark by scoring in both of his first two games. If he can keep that rate up he can push Pats towards a European spot. If, that is, they can defend better than they did against Galway in the first game of the season.

Keith Long says Bohs will “take the game to Pats” on Monday evening and if that does transpire to be the case there may be goals in this Dublin derby.

Pats have drifted in the betting which seems fair as this game could be closer than the 2.15 (23/20) favourites tag on the home side. Bohemians are priced as high as 3.75 (11/4) with Coral while the draw can be backed at 3.5 (5/2) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score could have a real chance at 1.95 (19/20) with bet365 and Betvictor. For +2.5 total goals Marathon Bet will pay out at 2.29 (9/7) and that is rightly tempting.

It’s also hard to ignore the potential for Christy Fagan to make it a hattrick of goalscoring games at a price of 2.3 (13/10) to score anytime with Betvictor.
