Cork City have the best defence in the country on current form.

In their first six games, Presidents Cup included, they have conceded a solitary goal in a 1-0 away defeat to Derry City. Three home games have come and gone and none of Dundalk, Bohemians or Longford could breach The Rebels’ defences.

Wexford Youths will arrive Leeside in decent form and with the first Premiership win monkey off their backs. After drawing a couple of blanks in the first two games they have found their scoring touch but Friday is likely to be a setback for Shane Keegan’s charges.

There is a good chance a win for City could take them top if the spoils are shared between Derry City and Shamrock Rovers. It may only be temporary with Dundalk facing Longford on Saturday but it will be a boost to Cork’s title aspirations.

With just three points separating the top five teams the league is as close as ever before so you can expect the team at the top to change regularly. But just a few weeks ago Cork were heading to Dundalk knowing anything other than a victory could see them drop out of touch.

It’s a credit that they have pulled back into it but if aspirations are to become reality they will need to replicate their excellent home form on the road.

Cork City v Wexford Youths Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Cork City are rightly strong favourites based on home form at a best 1.33 (1/3) with bet365, Boylesports and Paddy Power. Wexford Youths can be backed as high as 11.5 (21/2) with Marathon Bet while the draw is available at 5.3 (43/10) with Marathon Bet.

Handicap backers might like the look of Cork -1.5 Asian Handicap at even money with Betvictor. Backing Cork to Win To Nil at home could be a profitable strategy this season and with Betvictor offering 2.1 (11/10) on that outcome it looks to be worth a pop.

The alternative of both teams to score has little appeal even at a high of 2.15 (23/20) with Boylesports. Goals backers can get 1.75 (3/4) from Boyles for +2.5 total goals.
