Bray Wanderers were on the wrong side of an 8-0 defeat when they visited Dundalk last season.

While they are unlikely to suffer a similar fate this time around it’s worth noting that on their last three visits here (the 8-0 included) they have lost by at least four goals. If Dundalk get into the groove on Tuesday we should certainly expect them to win by at least the minimum handicap.

The Lillywhites’ best form has come on the road with only one of their five home league games seeing a handicap covered. Three of those games came against sides in the top four and the other against a resurgent and improving Sligo Rovers.

Finn Harps are the only bottom half side they have faced at home so far and they saw them off comfortably by a 3-0 scoreline. I will personally be surprised if they win by anything less against Bray Wanderers who have amassed one point and scored one goal in five away matches in the league.

Even with Stephen O Donnell, Patrick McEleney and Ciaran Kilduff likely to be absent Dundalk have plenty in reserve. Robbie Benson came into the midfield and performed well by all accounts while David McMillan has taken to the goal scoring responsibilities like the top class League Of Ireland striker that he is.

The bad news for the rest of the league is that Stephen Kenny is starting to blood the homegrown youngsters in the side. Ciaran and Michael O Connor and Georgie Poynton have all made their league debuts this season and that points to a healthy future for the border town.
